After 43 years of serving the Bellefontaine community, Lee’s Comfort Shoes has announced the closure of its downtown location at 109 N. Main St., marking the end of a long-standing family business rooted in faith, service, and personal connection.
“Happy New Year! God makes all things new! Lee’s Comfort Shoes is proud to have served the community for 43 years, and it is with hearts full of gratitude that we announce our closure,” said Heidi said via a Facebook post. “We acknowledge the blessings and guidance of our Heavenly Father. Throughout our journey, we have strived to provide comfort and excellent service, and we feel fortunate to have had many customers who became friends.”
Since opening its doors in downtown Bellefontaine in summer of 1983, Lee’s Comfort Shoes became known for personalized service, expert fitting, and quality comfort footwear—especially for customers with foot pain or special fitting needs. Generations of Logan County residents relied on the store not only for shoes, but for patience, care, and trusted relationships.
For many customers, visits to Lee’s were marked by familiar faces, meaningful conversations, and a level of service that extended well beyond retail.
The Reser family emphasized that faith continues to guide them as they close this chapter.
“Since 1948, our faith has guided us every step of the way, as established by our grandparents and parents,” said Jeff Reser, co-owner and brother of Jack Reser.
“While this chapter is coming to an end, we trust God’s call and His plan for our lives, and we are deeply grateful for the years we were able to serve this community, and for the ways we will continue to serve where He leads us next,” said Jack Reser.
The family extended heartfelt thanks to the Logan County community and downtown Bellefontaine for decades of support.
“It’s been an honor and our pleasure,” said Jack Reser.
As Lee’s Comfort Shoes closes its doors, its legacy remains firmly woven into the fabric of the community, which is measured not only in years of business but in relationships built, comfort provided, and a standard of service that will be remembered for years to come.

Heidi Reser holds an old Lee’s Shoes sign, and her husband and Lee’s Comfort Shoe’s owner, Jack, holds a red goose. Red Goose Shoes were the company’s original children’s brand of shoes and served as the family-owned firm’s calling card of golden customer service and family legacy, Mr. Reser said, adding, his parents stressed the morals of patience and gratitude from “The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs.”
