Girl Scout Troop 2166 has joined forces with Benjamin Logan Schools this summer to support the district’s Growing Gardens, Growing Minds community garden project. With the support of Elementary Teacher Ryan Kerns, the troop — comprised of local elementary students — planted a variety of vegetables and flowers on their first evening in the garden. The young scouts planted tomatoes, peppers, onions, green beans, zucchini, and a wide range of pollinator-friendly flowers. Throughout the summer months, they will care for the garden and hope to harvest enough produce to make salsa together at the end of the season. Troop Leader Lauren Ricker expressed her excitement about the collaboration. This partnership offers students a hands-on learning opportunity while promoting responsibility, teamwork and care for the environment.
