MARYSVILLE – A West Mansfield man and former youth softball coach will be spending the next quarter century in prison after he pleaded guilty last week to the rape of a 12-year-old girl that he coached.

Anthony James “A.J.” Davis, 30, coached youth softball in Richwood. An investigation into Davis’ improper contact with one of his players was begun in September 2024. Records show that in October 2024, the victim told investigators that she and Davis first had sexual contact about one year prior to the interview.

Davis pleaded to two counts of rape, sexual battery, and unlawful sex with a minor in a Union County court Wednesday, April 30, and given an indeterminate sentence of 25 to 29 years in prison.

The Union County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said that the sentence is mandatory, and Davis will have no eligibility for judicial or early release because of the nature of the crime.
