CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — Firefighters from West Liberty and other area departments were able to save 11 pets from an early Saturday, July 5, fire at 3008 Lippincott Road in Champaign County.

West Liberty Fire Department personnel responded around midnight to a fully involved fire at the residence, West Liberty Fire Chief Darin Leach said.

No people were physically injured, Chief Leach said.

One person inside the home at the time of the blaze was able to get out safely after a passerby stopped to alert them to the fire.

Firefighters were able to safely retrieve eight dogs and three cats from the home.

The fire chief was on scene later Saturday morning attempting to determine the cause of the blaze.

The attached garage of the two-story, vinyl-sided home along with about 30 percent of the living quarters was destroyed, Leach noted.

Allison Boyd is the home’s owner, according to Champaign County Auditor records.

Firefighters from Urbana, St. Paris and Rosewood provided mutual aid. Macochee Joint Ambulance District also assisted at the scene.
