Michael S. Douglass, 54, of Milford Center, was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs relating to a traffic stop about 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office received a report about a possible intoxicated driver that had left the West Mansfield Conservation Club, in a vehicle.
Deputies located the vehicle in the area of county roads 2 and 142 and initiated the stop.
While speaking with the driver, Douglass, deputies said he showed signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
He was asked to exit the vehicle and when requested by deputies, he agreed to a search of his vehicle. Deputies recovered an open bottle of alcoholic beverage in the cupholder, along with several empty bottles of alcoholic beverages in the vehicle.
Douglass also informed deputies that he had a firearm locked in a safe in the passenger floorboard. Deputies were able to safely locate the firearm.
The defendant submitted to field sobriety tests and then was transported to the Logan County Jail, where he provided a breath sample of 0.137 blood alcohol content. He was released to a sober driver.
Non-injury crash reported on S.R. 47
Douglas L. Hand, 58, of Bellefontaine, was cited for failure to control related to a non-injury crash Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 28.
Deputies report he was operating a northbound 2017 Ford Escape on State Route 47 near Township Road 135 about 1:35 p.m. when he crested a hill and went off the right side of the road, overcorrecting and then going off the left side of the road. His vehicle struck a tree stump and came to a rest.
Damage was light to the vehicle. Hand was wearing his seat belt.
