Several agencies combined forces for a successful drug trafficking investigation that resulted in the arrest of a defendant during a traffic stop Monday, Nov. 24, followed by the service of several narcotics-related search warrants.

The Bellefontaine Police Department’s K9 Unit initiated a traffic stop shortly before 10 a.m. on a dark green Dodge Ram truck due to the driver, Tyrone L. Jackson, 50, having a felony drug trafficking warrant for his arrest.

Jackson was placed under arrest for his first degree felony warrant for trafficking in cocaine.

The warrant was the result of a lengthy investigation conducted by detectives of the Bellefontaine Police Department, the BPD K9 Unit, detectives of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and detectives of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA).

During the stop, K9 Pyro was deployed for a vehicle sniff and gave a positive alert to narcotic odor. A probable cause search of the vehicle was then completed.

During the search, detectives located over an ounce of crack cocaine and a digital scale inside the vehicle.

After the stop, detectives from BPD and LCSO, along with the BPD K9 Unit proceeded to Columbus,  and met with detectives of HIDTA, where three narcotics-related search warrants were served.

The search of all three residences linked to Jackson, and revealed items and equipment consistent with drug trafficking, illegal manufacturing in drugs, U.S. currency, three firearms (one confirmed stolen), and drug paraphernalia. Additional charges are pending.

“The combined efforts and teamwork from all agencies involved, the specialized units who assisted in this investigation, and the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, should serve as a reminder that combating illegal drug activity in our community continues to be a priority to keep our community safe,” officials stated in a press release.
