Twelve-year-old Coy Yelton admits that showing beef cattle is “a lot of hard work,” but he said his entry this year in the Born and Raised in Logan County Market Beef Contest, “Curly,” makes it easy.
All of his efforts earned the Riverside Schools’ student the grand champion award for his steer at the contest Sunday evening, July 6, at the Logan County Junior Fair contest.
“I’m feeling on top of the world right now,” the fourth-year exhibitor said, after posing for photos with his many members of his extended family who were at the show arena supporting him. “I’m so proud of Curly and how well he acted; he has such a great attitude.”
Curly was purchased from Brad Young, and Coy said he has a regular routine with his steer that he enjoys, whether it’s cold or warm outdoors.
“I walk him every other day, and wash him on the days that I don’t walk him.”
Last year, Coy said he received seventh place overall at the Born and Raised Market Beef show.
