The organizers of a fundraiser on Friday, June 9, had an unexpected problem: it wasn’t that they underestimated how many people would turn out for a $12 chicken dinner to raise money for the new Lutheran Community Services Center. Instead, they underestimated how quickly everyone would line up to show their support. Then they sold 30 meals within 10 minutes of opening the doors. Not only that, but people were requesting multiple meals, including one order for 29. And that was unexpected.“We couldn’t imagine such a great response,” Lutheran Community Services Executive Director Kim Collum said. “Barb and Jerry Culp spearheaded this, and I can’t say enough to thank them.” By the end of the event, which was hosted by the American Legion in Bellefontaine, they’d raised almost $3,000 through the 200 chicken dinners sold and a raffle. (EXAMINER PHOTO | SHARYN KOPF)
