The Village of West Mansfield announced Wednesday, June 18, that Terry Brentlinger has been hired as the new chief of police for the West Mansfield Police Department.
“Chief Brentlinger brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Village. Chief Brentlinger looks forward to serving the Village with compassion, integrity and devotion,” officials said in a press release.
“Chief Brentlinger will be joined on patrol by his partner, K9 Ice, in the coming days.”
Chief Brentlinger’s law enforcement background includes his most recent stint serving as the Village of DeGraff’s police chief.
West Mansfield “Mayor (John) Newland and Village Council believe that adding a layer of protection to the Village residents and businesses is paramount,” officials said in the release.

In July of 2024, West Mansfield announced that the village council, with the support of Mayor Newland, had approved the re-establishment of the West Mansfield Police Department after several decades.
The former village of West Mansfield Police Department disbanded in the late 1980s.
Also last July, West Mansfield brought in Washington Township Police Chief Michael Thompson as a liaison and interim police chief in order to get the effort off the ground.
“I am not leaving Washington Township. I plan to never work a day on the road for the village,” Chief Thompson clarified in an email in July 2024. “I am a liaison to establish (the department) and listed as Chief of Police because the state requires they have one to establish.”
The mission of the West Mansfield Police Department is to engage with our citizens, ensure safety and security of our residents and businesses and to be proactive regarding issues and concerns in the village.
In recent years, the village has contracted with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office to provide
police coverage.
“The village can’t thank Sheriff (Randy) Dodds and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office enough for their willingness to provide police coverage to the village and for their continued support of our village and police department,” village officials said.
With Chief Brentlinger’s move to the West Mansfield Police Department, the Logan County Sheriff’s Office becomes primary covering agency for the villages of DeGraff and Quincy. The LCSO has signed contracts with both villages for law enforcement coverage, including 25 hours a week for DeGraff and 10 hours per week for Quincy, Chief Deputy Joe Kopus said.
The West Mansfield Police Department’s physical address is 127 N. Main St., West Mansfield, and mailing address is: P.O. Box 6, West Mansfield, OH 43358.
