Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report that a Columbus man was arrested early Tuesday, Feb. 4, after being found in physical control of a vehicle while intoxicated at the intersection of county roads 5 and 29.
According to reports, a deputy approached a vehicle stopped along County Road 5 at about 12:26 a.m. and observed a male asleep in the driver’s seat with the seat reclined and keys in the ignition. Loud music was playing from the vehicle, and an open case of beer with several cans missing was observed in the rear seat.
The driver, later identified as Coby R. Rojas, 19, of Columbus, was awakened after repeated attempts. Rojas told the deputy he had driven to the location and stated he had been at Mad River Mountain earlier in the evening. Deputies noted glassy eyes and thick, slurred speech. Rojas admitted to consuming approximately four beers before leaving the ski resort around 11 p.m.
Field sobriety testing indicated signs of impairment.
Rojas was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail. A breath test administered at jail registered a 0.140 blood-alcohol content.
Rojas was cited for physical control and issued a summons for underage consumption.
He was given a mandatory court date of 9 a.m. Feb. 4 in Bellefontaine Municipal Court and was released to a sober driver.
Deputies reported the driver was cooperative throughout the interaction.
