A large majority of Logan County voters turned down the lone countywide issue on the General Election ballot Tuesday, Nov. 4, rejecting the proposed 911 levy, while voting in favor of the BMRT Ambulance District and Bokescreek Township Fire and EMS replacement taxes and the Tri-Valley Fire District renewal tax.
For the countywide 911 levy, a total of 6,517 votes were cast against the issue, while 1,268 votes were cast for the levy, according to unofficial totals from the Logan County Board of Elections.
The additional tax was proposed for the purpose of establishment and operation of a 911 system that would have combined the Bellefontaine Police Department and the Logan County Sheriff’s Office into one dispatch center. The proposed 2-mill levy would have generated $3,487,907 annually for a five-year period.
The BMRT Ambulance District replacement tax received 382 votes in favor of the 3.1-mill levy, and 118 votes against the levy, according to unofficial totals.
The BMRT levy is for the purpose of current expenses that the county auditor estimates will collect $549,978 annually, which amounts to $110 for each $100,000 of property value, for a continuing period of time, commencing in 2026, first due in calendar year 2027.
For the Tri-Valley Fire District, voters cast 357 votes in favor of the 4.5-mill renewal levy, and 226 votes against the levy, according to unofficial totals.
The county auditor estimates the Tri-Valley Fire District levy will collect $364,982 annually for continuing expenses, which amounts to $158 for each $100,000 of property value. The five year levy commences in 2026, first due in calendar year 2027.
A total of 151 voters approved a 2-mill replacement tax in Bokescreek Township for Fire and EMS (excluding Ridgeway), while 92 people voted against the levy, according to unofficial totals.
The county auditor estimates that the Bokescreek Township Fire and EMS levy will collect $100,110 annually, which amounts to $70 for each $100,000 of property value, for 5 years, beginning in 2026, first due in calendar year 2027.
Other unofficial issue results from the levy Logan County Board of Elections are as follows:
- Village of DeGraff renewal cemetery levy – For- 115; Against- 85; a 0.7-mill, five-year renewal for the purpose of maintaining and operating Greenwood Union Cemetery.
- Jefferson Township renewal cemetery levy – For- 433; Against- 370, a 0.4-mill, five year levy.
- Perry Township renewal cemetery levy – For- 143; Against- 112; a 1-mill, five-year levy.
- Pleasant Township renewal cemetery levy – For- 92; Against- 75; a 0.7-mill, five-year levy.
- Village of Zanesfield renewal with increase current expenses levy – For- 31; Against-19; 2-mill, five-year levy (renewal of 1-mill and increase of 1-mill).
