Organizers from the United Silent Majority in Logan County report a community food drive Saturday, Nov. 1, was a big success, thanks to many donors who stepped up and a number of volunteers who pitched in.
Dustin Ragland said the group is conservatively estimating that the food drive raised approximately 1,050 meals — enough food to feed around 50 people for one week, three meals a day for seven days.
“I would like to thank everyone who showed up to volunteer and who donated,” he said.
In addition, a community soup kitchen event is set for Saturday, Nov. 22, between the hours of 4 to 7 p.m.
“We have partnered up with some wonderful people to have three different locations that will be hosting the same event at the same time,” Ragland explained.
The three soup kitchen locations Nov. 22 are as follows:
• Wake Up the World Ministries, 600 E. Brown Ave., Bellefontaine;
• 224 Oakland Square, Bellefontaine (also the new location of the warming shelter for 2025-26, thanks to the Recovery Zone); there will be signage up showing which door to use for this event; and
• Galilee Lutheran Church, 301 Lincoln Blvd., Russells Point.
“This is a great opportunity for neighbors to sit down and break bread with neighbors, to establish connections and friendships,” Ragland said. “If you would like to attend, but you don’t have transportation, let us know and we will make sure to get people there and back home.”
For those who are interested in volunteering to prepare food for the event, reach out to Ragland directly, or contact the churches hosting the event or the Recovery Zone of Logan County. Ragland’s contact number is (937) 539-5671.
Additional locations can be added for this soup kitchen event as well for those organizations interested in hosting.
The next Logan County food drive is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, with more details to follow.
