A Bellefontaine man is facing gun-related charges following an incident on the west side of the city Friday, Oct. 3.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched to 401 Clark Ave. at 10:25 p.m. on the report of shots fired.

After speaking with witnesses, Walter C. Crawford, 69, 401 Clark Ave., was arrested after he reportedly fired handgun at another person following an argument between the two in the carport next to Crawford’s house.

Police were notified of the shooting and located Crawford at his home, where he was found to be very intoxicated and had trouble answering questions, this before admitting that he did in fact discharge a weapon in the carport in an attempt to to scare off the complainant.

When police arrested Crawford, he was outside of his residence and did not have the handgun on his person.

Officers found a spent .22 caliber shell casing in the carport, then secured a search warrant for his house, where a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol was located.

No injuries were reported and Crawford was charged with using weapons while intoxicated and discharging firearms within the city limits.
