Fatal stabbing under investigation; suspect in custody

MT. VICTORY — A Mt. Victory man who sustained several stab wounds and was found on one of the village’s streets died early Wednesday, Oct. 1, as a result of his wounds.

James Collins, 48, was taken by Southeast Hardin Northwest Union Fire Department personnel to Hardin Memorial Hospital, where he died a short time later, deputies of the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies responded to the stabbing incident after receiving a 911 call shortly after midnight.

Andrew McCafferty, 46, also of Mt. Victory, has been arrested in connection with Collins’ death and charges are pending against the suspect.

McCafferty was lodged in the Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion.

Also assisting deputies at the scene were the Hardin County Prosecutor, Hardin County Coroner and Route 31 Towing.

The incident remains under investigation.
