A Greenville motorist was arrested Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 30, after he was reportedly speeding and showed signs of alcohol impairment during a traffic stop in Rushcreek Township.
Deputies of Logan County Sheriff’s Office on patrol report a northbound 2000 Chevrolet Equinox was traveling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone about 4:37 p.m. on U.S. Route 68 near County Road 111. The driver, identified as 47-year-old Austin D. Palivec, was stopped just south of County Road 51.
Deputies noted Palivec had slurred speech, drowsy behavior, and glossy eyes. An open can of beer was found in the vehicle along with other sealed cans of alcohol. Field sobriety tests were administered, during which Palivec allegedly failed multiple portions.
Palivec was taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail, where a breath test registered a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.181 — more than twice the legal limit.
He was cited with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, OVI with a high test result greater than .17, and speeding.
The driver, who told deputies he was homeless, was lodged in the jail.
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
