2 transported from serious injury crash at U.S. 33, C.R. 57

Troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a serious two-vehicle injury crash Saturday, May 10, that sent two individuals to area hospitals.

Troopers report driver Gerald B. Norris, 87, of Rushsylvania, was transported to Lima Memorial Hospital by Huntsville EMS in serious condition.

A passenger in the other vehicle involved, identified as Rony Martinez of Columbus
was flown to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton by CareFlight helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries.

At approximately 6:40 p.m., troopers responded to the injury crash the intersection of U.S. Route 33 at County Road 57 in Logan County. The preliminary investigation shows Norris was operating an eastbound 2022 Honda CR-V on C.R. 57 when he failed to yield at the intersection of U.S. 33.

A 2003 Chevrolet Express van traveling southeast on U.S. 33, operated by Pablo Guevara of Oxnard, Calif., then struck the Honda CR-V on the driver’s side, troopers report.

The Chevrolet van was occupied by Rudy Riveria,33; Jose Tscobar, 36; Rony Martinez, 27; Willson Alvonjas, 27; and Carlos Rosles, 32; all of Columbus. Guevara sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. None of the other occupants sustained any injuries.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be a contributing factors in this crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
