Nathan R. William, 20, of Van Wert, and Kathy L. Williams, 60, of Delphos, each were transported by Indian Lake EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries in a chain-reaction crash Sunday, Aug. 31, on U.S. Route 33.
Mr. William was operating a westbound 2014 Dodge Dart on U.S. 33 near Township Road 89 about 12:35 p.m. He reportedly passed a westbound 2015 Dodge Journey operated by Ms. Williams, on the left.
A third westbound vehicle, a 2012 Honda Accord operated by Keith W. Houser, 22, of Wapakoneta, was stopped just ahead, waiting to turn into a driveway.
Deputies said Mr. William stopped abruptly for Houser’s vehicle, causing Ms. Williams to strike the rear of his Dodge Dart.
The Dodge Dart then struck the rear of the Accord.
Houser did not report any injuries. Damage was heavy to the Dodge Dart and the Dodge Journey, and light to the Accord.
Mr. William was cited for reckless operation and Ms. Williams was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead. All of the occupants were wearing their seat belts.
