West Liberty-Salem 12U baseball collects victories

The West Liberty-Salem 12U baseball team swept a doubleheader at West Jefferson on Sunday, winning 16-6 and 11-4.

The Tigers outhit the Golden Gloves 30 to 10 over the 12 innings.

Greyson Leichty, Harrison Sutherin and Carter Underwood each went 4-for-4 in the first game, driving in nine of the Tigers’ 16 runs. Sutherin homered and was the winning pitcher. He allowed five runs on five hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk in five innings.

In the second contest, Caizen Anders hit a home run. He had a total of four hits on the day. Michael Beard added two hits and had six RBIs total. Jace Horn, Bentley Deam and Tyler Leas rounded out the offense.

Underwood battled the heat and struck out 10 West Jefferson hitters, allowing four hits and two walks.

Last Friday, the Tigers defeated the Union County Tigers 7-1. Starting pitcher Caizen Anders threw a complete game. He needed just 58 pitches, with six strikeouts, no walks and one unearned run. He had an RBI single in the third inning.

Harrison Sutherin had a two-run homer in the first after a walk to Anders to get the scoring started.

West Liberty-Salem also got a pair of hits from Greyson Leichty and an RBI single by Ozzy Anders.

The Tigers return home Tuesday to face Bellefontaine 12U at 6 p.m. at LEI Field.
