A West Liberty area man died in a Saturday afternoon, July 5 rollover crash involving two vehicles in the area of 5885 County Road 1.
Jeffrey M. Rucker, 53, was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Mr. Rucker was operating a northbound 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck about 12:30 p.m. on C.R. 1 when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and went off the right side of the road. The truck then re-entered the roadway, crossed the center line, and again went off the right side of the road where it traveled along a ditch before coming back onto the road and overturning.
While the truck was overturning, it struck a southbound 2023 Honda CR-V on C.R. 1 that had slowed to a near stop before impact. After impact, the truck traveled into a cornfield off the left side of the road and came to rest on its tires.
Mr. Rucker was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and was found deceased about 30-40 feet from where his truck came to rest in the standing cornfield.
Mr. Rucker’s body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office in Dayton for an autopsy.
The Honda’s driver, Diane Yoder, 63, also of the West Liberty area, was reportedly not injured. She was wearing her seat belt.
Damage to the vehicles was disabling and each was towed from the scene by Wrens Towing.
