Representing Calvary Christian School, 21 players and coaches from the JV and varsity volleyball teams painted cabins at YMCA Camp Willson, 2732 County Road 11, Bellefontaine, for the 10th annual United Way Community Care Day on Friday, Aug. 22. Staff from the Logan County Electric Operative tackled an extensive project at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Bellefontaine—restoring the horse announcer stand. According to Ashley Oakley, administrative services manager, they’re “giving it a facelift.” When a team tore it down to the studs the night before, though, they discovered it “was in worse shape than they thought.” The stand needed to be reframed and redressed with new windows, studs, plywood and metal. Though uncertain if they could finish it as part of the United Way’s Community Care Day on Friday, Oakley said they would “get a really good start on it.” (EXAMINER PHOTO | SHARYN KOPF)

With lots of work still to be done, 149 W. Columbus Ave., Bellefontaine, has a long way to go before it’s ready to open as the LoCo Kids Foundation’s children’s museum. Fortunately, people from Citizens Federal Savings and Loan took shifts to help demolish and tear down and discard tons of debris on Friday, Aug. 22. This particular United Way Community Care Day project gave Citizens Federal employee Jerrica Lane a chance to take a sledgehammer to one of the walls covering windows they want to expose while Kelly Buffkin tackles some sheathing.
