Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle crash early Sunday, Oct. 5, that sent two teenage passengers to area hospitals.
Emma Wagler, 17, Jackson Center, and Hazel McDermit, 16, of DeGraff, each sustained serious injuries and were transported separately by Huntsville Fire and EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital and Mary Rutan Hospital, respectively. Neither girl was wearing a seat belt, according to reports.
Deputies report 16-year-old Blake McVety, of Wapakoneta, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck about 12:50 a.m. southbound on County Road 49, when he failed to stop at the intersection with County Road 57. The vehicle then traveled through the intersection, went off the south side of C.R. 57 and struck a ditch.
McVety and another passenger in the truck, Lane Hill, 15, of Quincy, reported no injuries. Each was wearing a seat belt.
The driver was cited for failure to control.
The truck was estimated to be traveling at approximately 68 mph at the time of the crash.
Damage to the truck was disabling and it was removed from the scene by Top’s Towing.
