Ronald Shoffner, 60, and Dawn Helton, 33, both of Lakeview, were arrested on drug charges during a traffic stop about 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30.
Officers of the Washington Township Police Department were advised to be on the lookout for a vehicle occupied Shoffner and Helton of Lakeview after the pair were reported to be in Belle Center attempting to sell drugs.
Officers located the vehicle in the area of Stephenson Street and Oak Street in Lakeview. Upon making contact with the defendants, they stated they were at the residence prior to the traffic stop, but were not attempting to sell drugs.
Helton consented to a search of her person and a glass jar containing methamphetamine was located.
A search of the vehicle was then conducted. Inside Dawn’s purse, two cut straws with a white crystal substance was located. Officers then located a coke can full of soda with a clear plastic bag floating inside of it. The liquid substance inside of the can field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Both defendants stated the substance inside the can did not belong to them.
They each were taken into custody and transported to the Logan County Jail.
Shoffner was charged with possession of drugs and tampering with evidence. Helton was charged with possession of drugs, tampering with evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
