Eighth-grader John Tingley, left, is this year’s Benjamin Logan Middle School’s spelling bee champion. A son of Jason and Jacqueline Tingley, John earned the title after an intense 19-round competition. Pictured with him is runner-up Avah Berry, a sixth-grader and daughter of Keith and Rebecca Berry. Both finalists showcased incredible spelling skills, focus and perseverance, staff members said. The spelling bee was organized by fifth-grade language arts teacher Bobby Gill, with Assistant Principal Deepika Scheiderer serving as the pronouncer. Judges for the competition were Samantha Gessler and Sally Stolly. Both John and Avah will go on to represent Benjamin Logan Middle School at the Logan County Spelling Bee Tuesday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m. at the Holland Theatre. (Benjamin Logan PHOTO)
