Eighth-grader John Tingley, left, is this year’s Benjamin Logan Middle School’s spelling bee champion. A son of Jason and Jacqueline Tingley, John earned the title after an intense 19-round competition. Pictured with him is runner-up Avah Berry, a sixth-grader and daughter of Keith and Rebecca Berry. Both finalists showcased incredible spelling skills, focus and perseverance, staff members said. The spelling bee was organized by fifth-grade language arts teacher Bobby Gill, with Assistant Principal Deepika Scheiderer serving as the pronouncer. Judges for the competition were Samantha Gessler and Sally Stolly.
