Three injured in crash near Ohio Hi-Point

Three people were transported Thursday morning, Oct. 30, to area hospitals following a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 7:53 a.m. near Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, 2280 State Route 540.

Paige McComas, 17, of Bellefontaine was driving a 2004 Honda eastbound on S.R. 540 without headlights near the entrance to the school, officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department report. Tami Brown, 63, also of Bellefontaine, reportedly did not see the McComas vehicle and attempted to make a left-hand turn in her 2017 Honda from OHPCC lot onto S.R. 540, striking Honda in the passenger side.

Brown was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by the Bellefontaine EMS for injuries sustained in the crash, while McComas was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital by private vehicle. A passenger in the McComas vehicle, Hannah Larson, 17, of Bellefontaine, was also injured and was transported from the scene to Marysville Memorial Hospital by Robinaugh EMS.

Police reported the injury victims each sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash

McComas was cited for operating a motor vehicle without headlights.

The vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

It took about two hours to clear the scene.

• A rural Bellefontaine man was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital following a two-vehicle accident that occurred Monday afternoon, Oct. 27, on Gunntown Road.

Officers report Larry Neff, 87, of rural Bellefontaine suffered suspected serious injuries after his 2020 Hyundai Kona struck a trailer of a vehicle being towed by Richard Kimball, 83, of rural West Liberty, as it attempted to cross Gunntown Road at about 2:40 p.m.

Neff was transported from the scene by the Bellefontaine EMS to Mary Rutan Hospital. 

No report on his condition was available and Kimball was uninjured in the crash.

Neff was cited for failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead.
