Sgt. Godwin retirement recognized

A long-serving law enforcement officer and veteran of the U.S. military has retired after more than two decades of service to Logan County.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said goodbye to Sgt. John Godwin as he retires after 28 years. His final sign-off, Friday, Feb. 16, was a moment of reflection for him and his colleagues.

Sgt. Godwin is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He began his law enforcement career as an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department.

As Sgt. Godwin begins retirement, it marks the end of an era for the sheriff’s office. Over his 24 years there and four years at the Bellefontaine police department, he made an impact with his professionalism and compassion.

During his time in service, Sgt. Godwin focused on keeping the community safe. He was involved in training programs like ALICE training and armed teacher training for local schools.

Sgt. John Godwin’s journey, from the Navy to law enforcement, shows the importance of public service and although his final sign-off marks the end of his active duty, Sgt. Godwin’s legacy will inspire future officers.
