Search warrant served upon tobacco storefront, proprietor arrested

BellefontainePolice Patch-200A local store front was searched and later closed after officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department served a search warrant Friday, March 31, on the establishment.

Officers served the narcotics-related warrant around 3 p.m. at Smokeablez, 2230 S. Main St., and subsequently arrested the proprietor of the business, Thariq Al-Jhami, 36, of Bellefontaine, and charged him with multiple drug offenses.

During the investigation, police learned the business was selling illegal THC vape cartridges to juveniles and distributing the cartridges out of the store.

During the search, officers seized approximately 300 grams of marijuana, 73 vape cartridges, marijuana seeds and assorted drug paraphernalia.

A search of the suspect’s vehicle also turned up nearly $1,000 in cash, a handgun as well as more suspected marijuana and vape cartridges.

Marijuana seeds, grinders, hookahs and money were also seized from the store.

The suspect was charged with trafficking in drugs, possession of marijuana, possession of hashish and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.

His vehicle was also towed from the scene.
