Richwood man, 21, dies in drunk driving crash

RICHWOOD — A 21-year-old driver died and a teenage passenger was transported by Life Flight as a result of a drunk-driving rollover in the early morning hours on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

According to Union County Sheriff’s Office reports, Gabriel Thomas Allen, 21, of Richwood, died from fatal injuries sustained as a result of a single-vehicle crash about 1:06 a.m.

His passenger, Kitana Dawn Lowry, 19, also of Richwood, was flown to the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center.

According to the crash report, Allen was driving a 2005 Honda Accord southbound near 26003 Sandusky Road, south of Richwood, when he went off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected and went off the left side of the roadway, striking a mailbox and utility pole before rolling over and ending up in an open field.

Allen was partially ejected from the vehicle and Lowry was listed as totally ejected from the vehicle. According to the report, neither of the two were wearing their seatbelts and Allen was listed as being under the influence of alcohol while driving.

Both Allen and Lowry were transported to Memorial Hospital and Allen was pronounced deceased.

Lowry was later flown to the Ohio State Medical Center. Deputies were assisted on-scene by units from the Northwestern Joint Fire District, Radnor Township Fire District and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
