For the second year in a row, Logan County is hosting The Bellefontaine Bomber, a baseball and softball tournament directed by the Midwest Tournament Factory.

According to Kris Myers, Bellefontaine parks superintendent, we can anticipate seeing between 4,000 and 5,000 people visit the area between Friday, June 6, and Sunday, June 8.

We expect 111 teams this weekend, playing at Ratleff, Southview and Blue Jacket parks, as well as several other parks across the county,” Myers said.

With that in mind, Myers updated the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District (BJRD) on what to expect with upcoming tournaments at their regular board of trustees meeting Tuesday, June 3.

Next weekend will see the area hosting another baseball tournament, this one on a smaller scale with 30 teams—six per age group. The Chieftain Classic takes place from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15, at Ratleff and Blue Jacket parks.

Tuesday’s board meeting also saw them take the next step toward a new Hoffman Municipal Pool as they approved authorizing the hiring of a design firm.

We’ll send out a request for qualifications, then interview and choose the one that’s the best fit for our project,” Myers later explained. “I know several firms that do a lot of pool designs across our state and three to five of them would possibly be interested in this.”

Once a firm is chosen, Myers said they plan to have community sessions for input and put something together that fits into their budget.

In other BJRD news, baseball and softball seasons are going strong with registrations for football and soccer, which kick off in late July, already underway.

As for the Oakland Square Park project, a new playground has been ordered. Volunteers from Vineyard Christian Fellowship, Bellefontaine, plan to work on the park during the first full week of August.

The next Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District board of trustees meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, at a location yet to be determined.
