National Night Out set for Tuesday

Community members around Bellefontaine and Logan County are invited to join more than 38 million neighbors across 17,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide in National Night Out, planned for Tuesday evening, Aug. 5. 

The event returns to Brown Park from 6 to 8 p.m. Attendees of all ages can enjoy food, games and prizes, while having the chance to interact with their Bellefontaine Police Department officers. 

National Night Out is co-sponsored locally by Bellefontaine Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association. Other local sponsors are Dairy Queen of Bellefontaine, Easton Water, Hi-Point Business Solutions, Bellefontaine Joint Recreational District, Mary Rutan Health, The River, Ron’s Pizza, Smith Family McDonalds and Whit’s of Bellefontaine.

The annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work. Neighbors across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outdoors with the community and law enforcement. 

“This is a night for our nation to stand together and promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity,” National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said. “National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement. When law enforcement and the community work closely together, some amazing things can happen.”
