A motorcyclist was able to avoid a number of traffic citations following a short police chase in the city Sunday, June 1.

The Bellefontaine City Police report that a patrol car observed a motorcycle driving on the sidewalk headed northbound on Ludlow Road near Colton Ave., Sunday at about 8:23 p.m.

The officer positioned a patrol car in front of the motorcycle, at which time the cyclist accelerated at a high rate speed, steered around the patrol unit and headed northbound on Ludlow.

The motorcyclist reportedly passed multiple vehicles on Ludlow, reaching speeds of approximately 70 mph, disregarded the stop sign at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Ludlow St., and then proceeded west on Chillicothe Ave., again cutting in front of another vehicle.

The motorcyclist continued to south Main St., before turning northbound on Main and fleeing. The patrol unit headed north on Madriver St. to avoid the pedestrian traffic in the downtown area, but was soon after advised to terminate the pursuit as the motorcycle continued north at a high rate of speed.

Police describe the motorcycle as being teal in color with red and orange rims, while the rider was wearing a multicolored red, white, and black jacket and black pants. The incident was captured on the patrol car’s dash cam and the incident remains under investigation.
