A city resident was arrested by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department on the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 18, following an incident near the Logan County Library, 220 N. Main St.
Officers and the Bellefontaine EMS were called to the library at about 7 a.m. Tuesday on the report that Thomas B. Whitehead, 41, of Bellefontaine was acting erratically in one the the stairwells of the building. Whitehead refused treatment from the medics at this time and was advised to leave the premises, which he did.
But about 20 minutes later, officers were called back to a alley near the library on the report that Whitehead had returned and was lying on the ground in an alley, rolling about and yelling. His condition appeared considerably worse since the police last spoke to him, with Whitehead showing signs of methamphetamine intoxication.
He was then taken into custody at about 7:20 a.m. and transported to the Logan County Jail. However, given his state of intoxication, prior to intake at the jail, Whitehead was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital for treatment.
While at the hospital, Whitehead’s actions became even more erratic and inappropriate, but after several hours of treatment, he was released from care at about 2:15 p.m. and taken back to the Logan County Jail and lodged on the charge of public intoxication.
