MARYSVILLE — Officers of the Marysville Police Division responded to a domestic situation early Friday, May 30 that escalated into an officer-involved shooting incident, resulting in
injuries to a Marysville police officer and to a suspect.
Officers were dispatched about 2:16 a.m. to the 900 block of White Oak Court regarding a domestic dispute, according to a MPD media release.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male involved in the situation. During the interaction, the suspect produced a firearm and fired shots at officers from inside his vehicle. Officers returned fire, but the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, striking a
Marysville police vehicle occupied by an officer, and several other vehicles.
Deputies from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and MPD officers quickly located the suspect in the area of State Route 31 and
U.S. Route 33.
The suspect continued to flee westbound on U.S. 33, leading law enforcement on a pursuit.
The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle became disabled in the median of U.S. 33, near Northwest Parkway.
The suspect then exited the vehicle armed with a firearm and was engaged by a deputy. The suspect was struck with multiple rounds, neutralizing the threat.
Law enforcement officers on the scene immediately rendered aid to the suspect until Marysville Fire Department personnel arrived and assumed care. The suspect was transported to a local hospital before being transferred to a Columbus area hospital; his condition is currently unknown.
A MPD officer sustained injuries during the initial shooting incident and was transported to a local hospital, where the officer was treated and subsequently released.
No other law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
As is standard practice in any officer-involved critical incident, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was contacted to conduct the investigation into this incident.
The case remains under investigation by BCI, the Marysville Police Division, and the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Charges for felonious assault on a peace officer, a first-degree felony, along with other serious felonies, are forthcoming.
