September is here, ushering in thoughts of pumpkin spice, changing leaves, bonfires and a chance to wear your favorite team hoodie to a Friday night football game.
But autumn has another benefit as it gives area crafters a chance to display the goods they’ve been working on since last Christmas at local fairs and festivals. And Logan County has plenty to choose from.
So for those who enjoy strolling past quilts and candles and homemade treats while snacking on caramel apples and kettle corn, here’s a rundown of the various options we can look forward to this fall.
September
The season moves into action with the Indian Lake State Park Fall Festival this weekend, Sept. 19 to 21. The annual event will be open Friday, 4-8 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Parking and admission are free, as are wagon rides from your car to the event.
Then, Saturday afternoon, stop by Union Station, 613 Hamilton St., Bellefontaine, for their Fall Fest from 2 to 4 p.m. The event includes a bounce house, pottery sale, face painting, yard activities, snacks and a martial arts presentation.
If that’s not enough, check out the Fall Community Yard Sales in North Lewisburg, this Friday to Sunday as well.
Next weekend, on Saturday, Sept. 27, the Logan County Friendly Senior Center, 934 S. Main St., hosts an Autumn Glow Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show features 24 vendors and all handmade items. Food options will be available, too.
October
October starts off with Bellefontaine’s annual Pumpkin Walk on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 2 to 6 p.m. The much-loved annual family friendly event transforms the streets of Bellefontaine to a Halloween-inspired day of games, food trucks, crafts, pumpkins, trick or treating, hayrides and more. Fun seekers of all ages are invited to wear costumes as they explore all the downtown has to offer.
Harvest Round-Up Days at Marmon Valley Farm, are every Sunday in October, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a hayride, the hay maze, and the Play Barn as well as visit the animals and try out the rope bridge.
The pumpkin and pony package for children ages 11 and under costs $14 and consists of a pie pumpkin, pony ride, hayride and animal feed.Other costs are: hayrides for $6.50 and pumpkins of various sizes for $1 to $8. The village of Russells Point parks and recreation board is hosting its annual Fall Craft Festival on Fairview, Saturday, Oct. 11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Fairview Avenue in Russells Point. The day will feature autumn décor, early Christmas shopping and lunch in the park.
The Logan County Fairgrounds hosts a Fright Night Car Show & Flea Market cancer benefit auction and trunk or treat on Saturday, Oct. 25, from noon to 10 p.m. The all-day, family friendly event will include car decorating and costume contests along with live music from Aaron Francis & Family and Logan Rush. DJ Joe Pine will be there as well.
November
The annual Indian Lake Music Boosters Holiday Market will take place in the Indian Lake High School on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes a $2 entry fee. They anticipate over 60 vendors selling items like soaps, candles, handmade crafts, gifts, toys and more. For lunch, you can once again enjoy Mel’s homemade chicken and noodles.
Later in the month, Downtown Bellefontaine will hold its yearly Holiday Open House from Friday, Nov. 21, to Sunday, Nov. 23. Besides the grand reopening of the Santa Shed, the weekend offers you a chance to enjoy the lights, flavors and shopping of a small-town Christmas.
