Ben Logan struck first, but Milton-Union got off the leash.
The Lady Raiders girls soccer team saw its playoff run come to an end Monday, with a 3-2 loss to Milton-Union in the Division IV district semifinal.
The Lady Raiders got a goal with just over eight minutes to go in the first half, then added another early in the second.
Milton Union tied it on a free kick with 26 minutes left, then scored twice in quick succession about 11 minutes later.
Ben Logan’s final record is 14-4-1.
Daylin Varner had the first goal, with Ella Chamberlain having the assist. Chamberlin scored the second.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Kate Copp had two goals and Ella Smith had one. Milton-Union improves to 12-6-2 on the year, and will face the winner of Summit Country Day and Bishop Fenwick for the district title on Thursday.
Coach Kyle Trees said, “We knew (Milton-Union) was capable of making a comeback.”
He said “I can’t say enough about our seniors and everything magical that they did this year.” He added that he does not see the team as coming up short, but rather establishing a new standard, with good things to come in the future.
In the first half, Ben Logan got a couple of corner kicks with about nine minutes gone by. The first hit the side of the net, while the second was deflected by the Milton-Union keeper, then cleared by the defense.
A cross shot by Ella Stoodt a couple minutes later trickled just wide.
Rissa Bates came up with a good save on a close shot by the Bulldogs with 27 minutes to go.
Around 17 minutes, Varner made a charge, but the M-U keeper was able to cover the ball.
Shortly thereafter, Milton-Union had a couple of scoring chances, with one producing a shot over the top of the net.
Varner broke the scoreless deadlock at 8:17 with Chamberlain setting her up.
Bates was shaken up shortly thereafter and briefly came out of the game. Chamberlin took over in net, and made a save with just under seven minutes to go.
The Lady Raiders maintained their one-goal lead until the halftime break.
With 34 1/2 minutes left in the second, Ben Logan was awarded a penalty kick. Varner lined up and fired. Her shot was stopped, but Chamberlain was able to gather the rebound and put it in.
A free kick for Milton-Union went off the crossbar a couple minutes after that.
Another free kick, this one at 26:22, sailed high in the middle and into the net to make it 2-1.
It stayed that way until the Bulldogs got a goal from short range with 15:22, then another on a charge to the edge at 14:18.
The Lady Raiders kept battling, and very nearly scored at one point, before time expired.
