The Indian Lake Pickleball Committee is thrilled to announce the grand opening celebration of its brand-new six-court pickleball complex at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, located at Oldfield Beach.

This event marks a major milestone for the community and reflects a growing demand for active outdoor recreation.

 The grand opening ceremony will include:

Ribbon-cutting ceremony with local officials and community leaders;

• Demonstration matches featuring local pickleball players and instructors;

• Free beginner clinics open to the public; and

• Refreshments.

“We’re proud to bring these new courts to Indian Lake,” said Laura Kunkle, Indian Lake Pickleball co-chair.

“This project is a collaborative effort between volunteers, the Indian Lake Development Corporation (ILDC), and Indian Lake State Park. It was made possible through the generous contributions of donors and sponsors, as well as a pivotal $150,000 grant from the Ohio legislature’s one-time use strategic investment fund.”

Pickleball, a rapidly growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, has seen a surge in popularity across the United States.

“Known for its accessibility and fun, pickleball appeals to players of all ages and skill levels, making it a vibrant addition to the Indian Lake area,” said Kunkle.

“These courts will provide a space for residents of all ages to play, connect and stay active. The courts will serve recreational and competitive players alike while offering a welcoming environment for newcomers to the sport.”

Community members are encouraged to bring their paddles and join the fun. No prior registration is needed to attend the event.
