Cefer Abdias Velazquez Cruze, 24, of 2497 Township Road 55, was arrested by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department following a impaired driving-related traffic stop in the city about 10 p.m. Tuesday, June 10.
Officers report a Logan County Sheriff’s Office deputy in an unmarked cruiser observed Cruze make several marked lane violations near Love’s Truck Stop on the east side of the city on State Route 540 while headed into the Bellefontaine westbound on Sandusky Ave.
Police were alerted and and both they and the deputy confronted Cruze at Speedway, 600 E. Sandusky Ave., at which time Cruze attempted to flee on foot before he was quickly subdued and handcuffed.
Cruze reportedly failed field sobriety tests and was lodged in the Logan County Jail after being examined at Mary Rutan Hospital and having a blood sample drawn there.
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE) was notified of Cruze’s arrest. ICE informed officers that Cruse had a visa that expired in 2019. ICE had no record for a passenger who was in the vehicle, who was released from scene to a sober individual. Cruze’s vehicle was impounded.
Cruze was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence or alcohol/drugs and obstructing official business. The case file, which includes a statement from the deputy, was forwarded to the Bellefontaine Municipal Court for further consideration.
• In other action Tuesday, Audrey Lynn Gibson, 29, of Caledonia, was arrested by the BPD on a failure to appear warrant.
Officers also were dispatched to the Pickaway County Correctional Institute to take custody of Cody Lane Ramey, 225 N. Detroit St., on a failure to appear warrant.
