Holidays at the Holland: Music and more to celebrate during December

279

Celebrate the holidays at the Holland Theatre during December with a reimagined holiday classic and music for all tastes: Irish, jazz, and more. The month will see a mix of local and regional performers taking the stage to spread Christmas cheer.

First up is “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” from Windmill Productions on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m.

This version of the beloved holiday movie is presented as a live 1940s radio broadcast. Local actors portray multiple roles and create sound effects, bringing to life the story of idealistic George Bailey as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve.

THE DROWSY LADS

Next up will be The Drowsy Lads: An Irish Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m.

This crowd-pleasing band returns to the Holland for another rousing evening — this time with a lively assortment of Christmas music mixed with the band’s trademark traditional Irish tunes. This event is sponsored by WYSO 91.3 FM.

The music continues on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m., with the West Central Ohio Community Concert Band’s annual free holiday concert.

Now in its 33rd season, the WCOCCB is under the direction of Joe Antram. The theme for the concert is, “Celebrating the Sounds of Christmas Across Europe.”

The Holland will also offer a series of movies for all ages during shutdown week between Christmas and New Year’s Day; more details will be released soon.
