Girls tennis: Doubles pair for Bellefontaine qualifies for districts

The Bellefontaine girls tennis team’s doubles team of Mia Brown and Rylee Crabtree won two matches at the Division II sectional tournament on Tuesday at Troy High School.
Brown and Crabtree, who are both freshmen, had a bye in the first round. They defeated Sophia Blankley and Karmalita Gonzalez of Northwestern, 6-0, 6-0.
In the quarterfinals, they won over Milton-Union’s Penelope Bobic and Grace Leffew, 6-0, 6-1.
They will face the #2 seed team of Mya Jones and Isla Gilman from Chaminade-Julienne in the semifinals on Friday.
By reaching the semifinals, they have also qualified for the district tournament next Tuesday in Mason.
The last players to reach districts for the Lady Chieftains were Emily Ellis and Molli Muniz in 1993.
The other doubles team of Ava Dolan and Olivia Wayre won 6-1, 6-1 over Greenon’s Kadi Brown and Emma Scribben, and defeated Brookville’s Ellie Dafler and Kinley Ebbing, 6-1, 6-0. They then lost to Jones and Gilman, 6-1, 6-1.
Adison Postle and Maria Casanas lost to Greenon’s Lilly Wilkins and Skylar Stocker, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the first round.
Oriana Vasquez lost in singles to Mallory Stokes of Urbana, 6-1, 6-1.
