Peace officers and EMS personnel from around the county were called to search for a five-year-old Bellefontaine girl who reportedly went missing Friday, June 27.

The Bellefontaine Police Department received a call at 9:34 p.m. Friday reporting the missing juvenile from an address in the 400 block of east Chillicothe Avenue, the child having apparently left the house through the back door.

Police learned on arrival that the child had been missing for about 20 minutes. At that the Bellefontaine Fire Department and EMS responded, along with the deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

The Washington Township Police Department was also contacted in reference to using their K9 unit for tracking and the Ohio State Highway Patrol was also notified requesting the use of their helicopter, if needed. A drone from the LCSO was deployed.

Deputies from the LCSO located the child shortly thereafter in the city on Allison Road near Schrader Road. She was returned to her home before being transported to Mary Rutan Hospital for evaluation.

There was no report on the child’s condition and the BPD declared the incident closed at 11:04 p.m. Friday.

This is the second time in as many weeks the child has wandered off from her Chillicothe Avenue home. Last week, she was found walking toward County Road 9.
