An ordinance which would annex the approximately 200-acre Duff Quarry into the city limits will be up for its third reading and final vote before the Bellefontaine City Council Tuesday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m.
The defunct quarry lies adjacent to the city on its north side, north of U.S. Route 33 and west of the C.C.C. & St. Louis R.R. right-of-way. The ordinance specifies that the parcels will be brought into the city as an R-1, Single Family Residence District, but plans are in the works to turn the land into a solar energy-generating facility, which would require that the property be rezoned at a later date.
Council Members John Aler and Kyle Springs both voted against the annexation measure on the first two readings.
Also up for a third reading and final vote Tuesday is an ordinance establishing compensation for a Bellefontaine Municipal Court Prosecutor.
Before the council at Tuesday’s meeting are first readings of ordinances that will allow the parks department to seek bids for both the Harmon Park project and the design of the new Hoffman Pool.
A third ordinance for up for a first reading will make supplemental appropriations to the parks department, the Hoffman Pool and the Bellefontaine Fire Department, and the council will also consider a resolution allowing the city to apply for a $5,000 grant from Walmart.
