Drug paraphernalia recovered from traffic stop

David Hunsicker, 58, of Bellefontaine, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia following a Saturday, Feb. 1, traffic stop conducted by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., an officer on patrol observed Hunsicker reportedly fail to signal a turn onto Plumvalley Street from west Chillicothe Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with Hunsicker and his passenger, Jill Cavinder.

While speaking with them, the officer noticed an open bottle of wine in Cavinder’s purse. She admitted to drinking half of it but said she forgot she still had it. A second officer arrived to assist, and Hunsicker was asked to exit the vehicle for a pat-down.

During the search, officers discovered a pipe with Chore Boy stuffed inside his jacket pocket—an item commonly used for smoking methamphetamine or crack. Hunsicker was taken into custody, searched further, and secured in a patrol vehicle while officers checked his truck. No additional contraband was found.

Hunsicker was issued a summons and advised of his mandatory court appearance before being released from the scene. Cavinder was given a warning for the open container violation.
