A Lima man was apprehended after a high-speed pursuit through Logan and Hardin counties Sunday afternoon, Dec. 7, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.
Rayvon Holmen Jr., 32, was charged with failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
About 3:50 p.m. Sunday, a deputy initiated a traffic stop with a Ford Expedition operated by Holmen on U.S. Route 33 for speeding and erratic driving.
Deputies said Holmen initially pulled over near Lima Street and Vine Street in Huntsville, but as deputies approached the sport utility vehicle, the defendant took off, fleeing the stop.
Deputies chased the vehicle in the village before the suspect vehicle cut through a grassy area and re-entered northbound State Route 117.
Holmen then weaved in and out of traffic, reportedly reaching speeds of 113 miles per hour. The pursuit continued into Hardin County, but deputies terminated the chase as they approached Roundhead for public safety reasons.
Shortly thereafter, deputies learned of a crash near State Route 235 and Center Street in Roundhead. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found the suspect’s vehicle, which had sustained heavy damage.
Witnesses reported seeing a man running from the scene.
A search began for the defendant involving multiple agencies, including the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Township Police.
Deputies soon spotted a man near an abandoned property on Mill Street. Fresh footprints led law enforcement to a nearby shed. After repeated commands, Holmen reportedly exited the shed with his hands up. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Deputies seized three cell phones, two sets of keys, including one belonging to the crashed vehicle, and $3,700 in cash from Holmen.
K9 Tega also found a wallet and documents containing Holmen’s information near the shed.
