COLUMBUS – Logan County Commissioner Michael E. Yoder attended the 2023 County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) New Member Training at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Columbus.

New Member Training offers newly elected county commissioners, county executives, and county council members a unique opportunity to learn directly from experienced, distinguished speakers on how new members can successfully serve their counties.

New members heard presentations by experienced commissioners, county staff, and CCAO/CORSA (County Risk Sharing Authority)/CEBCO (County Employee Benefit Consortium) staff. Tuesday, a local speaker included Ben Vollrath, president/CEO of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, along with John Trott, Greater Ohio Workforce Board; and Darnita Bradley executive director, JobsOhio senior manager local government affairs and external engagement. They spoke about the role of elected officials in economic and workforce development.

Tuesday evening, new members took advantage of the opportunity to have informative, in-depth conversations with several directors in the DeWine-Husted administration. They heard from Kimberly Murnieks, director of the Ohio Office of Budget and Management; Lori Criss, director of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services; Matt Damschroder, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services; and Brian Baldridge, director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

New members also met with legislators from the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate, allowing them to cultivate valuable relationships.

The County Commissioners Association of Ohio advances effective county government for Ohio through legislative advocacy, education and training, technical assistance and research, quality enterprise service programs, and greater citizen awareness and understanding of county government.
