MARYSVILLE — Troopers of the Marysville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a crash in a construction zone on U.S. 33 in Union County early Wednesday morning, Aug. 27, that sent a Marion woman to the hospital, and also involved an asphalt roller operator from Bellefontaine.
Martha M. Noel, 52, of Marion, was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, and reportedly was in critical condition, troopers said Wednesday afternoon.
The asphalt roller operator, Jason R. McKee, 50, of Bellefontaine, did not sustain any injuries, troopers said.
Troopers responded to the crash about 12:38 a.m. Wednesday in the area of U.S. 33 eastbound near State Route 161 in Jerome Township.
Preliminary investigation showed that Noel was operating an eastbound 2012 Lexus GX sport utility vehicle in the construction zone when she struck a traffic cone before striking a 2024 Hamm & Phillips Service Company tandem asphalt roller, operated by McKee.
Troopers said Noel was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Jerome Township Fire & EMS and Kevin’s Towing. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
