A rural DeGraff resident was arrested by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department Wednesday, Aug. 13, after officers were dispatched to the 900 block of north Main Street on the report of an intoxicated male in the area.

The report indicates that a complainant observed Kenneth J. Wilkinson, 38, of rural DeGraff, walking southbound on Main Street about 8:16 p.m. and he appeared to be unsteady on his feet.

After locating and questioning Wilkinson, officers noted that his speech was slurred and he reportedly gave officers conflicting stories about his destination.

Police then initiated a search of Wilkinson’s person and uncovered a bottle of unidentified pills and a hypodermic needle.

Following the search, Wilkinson was arrested for possession of drug abuse instruments and both the syringe and bottle of pills were taken into evidence. He was transported and lodged in the Logan County Jail.

• Officers also report the arrest of David C. Taggart, 36, of 400 W. Sandusky Ave., following a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Thursday, Aug. 14.

Officers initiated the stop at about 12:28 a.m. after they observed Taggart driving westbound on Sandusky Avenue, and knowing that Taggart did not possess a valid driver’s license and learning that the vehicle did not have proper registration, stopped him near his residence.

Taggart reportedly refused to allow a search of his vehicle and K9 Pyro was called to the scene. Pyro gave a free-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert, at which time officers initiated a probable cause search of the vehicle and located small amount of white powder, which tested positive for cocaine at the scene.

The defendant was then arrested and cuffed, after which he reportedly became agitated and began yelling at the officers on the scene, and continued to do so after he was secured in the back seat on the police cruiser.

Taggart was lodged in the jail on the charge of possession of drugs without further incident.
