UPDATE: The boil advisory affecting homes in the vicinty of 700 South Main Street was lifted about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 24, per officials of the Bellefontaine Water Department.

A boil water advisory has been issued for portions of south Bellefontaine following a loss of water pressure caused by a malfunctioning fire protection system, according to the Bellefontaine Water Department.
A pressure loss originated at 225 Lincoln Street., prompted the advisory for the following areas:
• 500–700 blocks of South Detroit Street
• All of Maple Avenue
• 704 S. Main St.
• 624 S. Main St.
All water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, or washing dishes should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one (5) minute, then allowed to cool before use. The advisory will remain in effect until water quality testing confirms the system is safe.
Air in water lines
Residents who experience air coming from water fixtures are advised to go to the highest fixture in the home and allow it to run until the air stops and the water becomes clear and consistent.
Testing and updates
Water samples are scheduled to be collected Monday, Feb. 23, with test results expected to be available Tuesday, Feb. 24. Officials said the advisory will remain in place until testing confirms the water supply meets safety standards.
An update will be provided as soon as the boil advisory is lifted.
