Bellefontaine Middle School marked a milestone this week by holding its first-ever National Junior Honor Society tapping ceremony, formally recognizing 15 students for their commitment to scholarship, service, leadership and character.

Students inducted into the inaugural NJHS class included Camden Vollrath, Matthew Torsell, Jack Fissel, Garrett Gossard, Owen Smith, Zane Chiles, Fenix Wilson and Colson Garver, Ellie Irick, Sophia Pulfer, Eva Wilson, Alexis Hogan and Alivia Owens, Griffen Burkhardt and Rowen Daring.

Members of the Bellefontaine High School National Honor Society assisted with the ceremony, volunteering to conduct a surprise tapping event to help the middle school launch its new program.

School officials said the event marks the beginning of a new tradition at BMS, recognizing students who exemplify the core values of NJHS.

The National Junior Honor Society is a nationwide student organization that recognizes outstanding middle school students in four core areas: scholarship, service, leadership and character.

NJHS serves as the middle school counterpart to the National Honor Society at the high school level, with students typically selected by a faculty council after meeting academic requirements and demonstrating involvement and strong character.

Beyond recognition, NJHS chapters encourage students to develop leadership skills, participate in service projects, and build a foundation for future academic and civic success as they move into high school and beyond.
