DAYTON — The Bellefontaine High School robotics program turned in an impressive performance Friday at the Ohio State VEX Robotics Championship, with two teams earning qualification for the VEX Robotics World Championship.
The event was held at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton and featured many of the top robotics teams from across Ohio.
All three Bellefontaine teams advanced to the tournament rounds, showcasing strong match play and engineering design throughout the competition.
In the Raptor Division, Team 9185K — Kratos finished the qualification rounds in 14th place with a 5-3 record. Teammates Team 9185W — “It’s Whatever” placed ninth with a 6-2 record.
Both teams advanced to the elimination bracket and battled their way to the division semifinals before being eliminated after strong tournament runs.
Kratos also competed in the Skills Challenge, finishing eighth overall in the state. That placement secured the team a berth at the VEX Robotics World Championship, one of the highest honors of the competition season.
In the Nighthawk Division, Team 9185T — Terminator delivered one of the event’s top performances, finishing sixth in qualification matches with a 6-1-1 record before advancing into the tournament bracket.
Terminator’s engineering design also drew praise from judges during the event. The team received the Create Award, which recognizes innovative engineering solutions and overall robot design. The award also automatically qualifies the team for the VEX Robotics World Championship.
With strong qualification records, deep tournament runs and two teams advancing to the world stage, Bellefontaine’s robotics program continues to build momentum among Ohio’s competitive robotics programs.
The teams will now prepare for the VEX Robotics World Championship, scheduled for April 22-24 in St. Louis, where they will compete against top teams from around the world.
