The 2025-26 Quiz Bowl season officially kicks off when Bellefontaine hosts a tri-match vs. Kenton and Ada on Monday, Oct. 13, at 5 p.m.

The season opener will take place at Bellefontaine High School, marking the first opportunity for the Chieftains to showcase their knowledge and teamwork.

Preparation has been a priority for the team this season. The Chieftains practice once a week, drawing strong interest with 21 students regularly attending practices. This robust participation reflects the team’s growing presence in the school and its appeal to students who enjoy testing their knowledge and quick thinking in a competitive environment.

In competition, teams of four players compete head-to-head. Matches consist of 20 toss-up questions — open to any team member to answer — and bonus questions, which allow teams to collaborate and earn additional points. This format tests not only individual knowledge and quick recall but also teamwork, strategy, and communication.

This season, Bellefontaine will be competing in two leagues: the HancockHardinLogan League, which features competitive teams from surrounding counties; and the Central Buckeye Conference, a strong league that offers a variety of challenging opponents and opportunities for growth.

Competing in both leagues will give the Chieftains more exposure to different styles of play and help sharpen their skills throughout the season.

This year, the Bellefontaine Quiz Bowl team has set an ambitious goal: to qualify for nationals in Chicago for the third year in a row. With strong leadership, dedicated weekly practice, and competition in two leagues, the team is aiming to prove themselves on the national stage and represent Bellefontaine with pride.

Finally, BHS will host the State Quiz Bowl Championship on April 11, 2026. Bellefontaine hosted the state finals last spring as well.

Cliff Core is the BHS Quiz Bowl coach.
