On Sunday, November 10, 2024, Asa W. Myers, father of three children, passed away at the age of 88 at Hamilton Family Care Home in Charlotte, NC.
Asa was born on March 29, 1936, in LaRue, Ohio, to Harold Myers and Mildred (McCrary) Myers. He graduated from LaRue High School in 1954 and married Joan Swam on September 7, 1957. He served our country as a Navy member for 20 years. During this time, they raised two sons, Michael, and Douglas, and one daughter Diana.
When he retired from the Navy in 1974, they opened the Western Auto store in Bellefontaine, OH, where the whole family worked. Later, Asa and Joan relocated to the Carolinas to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Asa was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, most recently at St. Paul Methodist Church. Until moving into assisted living, he and Joan frequented the Senior Center in Clover. Asa volunteered with the Red Cross assisting families during emergencies such as house fires. He also volunteered with Society of St. Andrew, picking up many loads of donated food that he distributed throughout the community.
Asa was preceded in death by his wife Joan, father Harold, mother Mildred, sisters Sue, Mary Ann, Marilyn, Karen, brother John, and son Douglas. He is survived by his brother Max, son Michael, daughter Diana, 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service with Masonic rites, followed by brief graveside service with military honors will be Saturday, December 7, at St. Paul Methodist Church located 1550 State Rd S-46-151, Clover, SC 29710 at 10 a.m.
